Why does God feel distant?

When something once felt near,
And no longer does.
There was a time when it felt clear.
Present.
Close.
And now…
Something feels quiet.
Not gone.
But not the same.
Prayers feel different.
Not unanswered…
But unanswered in the way we expected.
What once felt alive…
Feels distant.

Where did He go?
Was He ever as near as it felt?
Or has something changed?
We are often told to push through.
To try harder.
To believe more.
But the distance does not close that way.
Because what we are feeling…
Is not just effort.
It is absence.
Or something that feels like it.
And that feeling is real.
Even if we do not fully understand it.
There are moments in the journey…
Where what once sustained us,
No longer does.
Not because it was false.
But because something deeper is unfolding.
And what once felt like closeness…
Begins to give way to something quieter.
Less felt.
But not less real.
And in that quiet…
The question deepens.
Not just:
Why does God feel distant?
But:
Is He still here…
Even when I cannot feel Him?
Because there are moments…
Where nothing seems to respond.
Nothing seems to move.
Nothing feels near.
And yet…
Something remains.
Not loud.
Not obvious.
Not immediate.
But present.
Not in the way it once was…
But not gone.
And slowly…
Something begins to shift.
Not that the feeling returns right away…
But that the distance…
May not be what it seems.
That what feels like absence…
May not be abandonment.
And that even here…
We are not alone.
Not forgotten.
Not left behind.
Not outside of His presence.
And something in us waits…
Not for a feeling to return…
But for something deeper
To be recognized.
